New Tools

Nov 21, 2006  I'm running W2K Pro on a trial version of Parallels. The only option under screen resolution in Windows is 800x600. How can I get Parallels to include other resolutions supported by the video card/monitor? BTW, I have a Mac Pro with Nvidia 7300. I installed Windows 10 x64 via Parallels on my Mac Pro 2013 with Mac OS 10.12.4 (Sierra, actual version). In Windows settings I cannot change the screen resolution (it's greyed out) so it's always set on 1024x768. Screen resolution is 2560x1440. Connected via Display Port.

The four new tools are shown in Figure 1.

They are:

Download Audio – Similar to the Download Video tool but targeted toward downloading audio from the Internet, including multiple track downloads from a single page.

Airplane Mode – Easily disable both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth® on your Mac.

Switch Resolution – Enables you to quickly switch display resolutions—perhaps even to resolutions you didn’t know your display supported. This tool will be especially useful to those who consider the Apple® resolution choices a bit too limited. Compare the macOS® choices on an iMac® to the ones offered in the Switch Resolution tool, as shown in Figure 2.

Simply press Close. Upon starting JAWS in a Parallels session, you will receive a Video Intercept prompt. Screen readers on your Mac JAWS You can download the 40 minute mode demo (after 40 minutes, your computer or Parallels virtual machine must be rebooted) of JAWS at (54MB). To boot into Windows, you either select your Start Up disk before rebooting or hold down the option (alt) key when booting. In Parallels, rebooting Windows only takes a few seconds and won’t interfere with anything you’re doing in OSX, so this makes testing with the JAWS demo even easier. Presentation Mode – This tool automatically detects connected external displays or a projector. It also enables several other tools to minimize distractions, such as hiding files on your desktop, disabling notifications, and blocking your Mac from going to sleep.

New Features

Among the features in this update are:

The Download Video tool can be automatically updated. This is especially important since some of the most popular video posting sites (YouTube, Facebook, etc.) change the manner in which videos are referenced. These changes can make the Download Video tool no longer work. This update means that we can fix these issues quickly.

The Screenshot tools can now save images in different formats. You set the format you want in the tool preferences, as shown in Figure 3.

Mac Display Resolution

Several different do-not-sleep durations are now available in the Do Not Sleep tool.

You can install the new Parallels Toolbox update by using the “Check for Updates …” menu item. (See Figure 4.)

• Open the Windows Applications folder, and you'll see shortcuts to frequently used Windows applications ( ). TIP Don't see the program you want in the Windows Applications folder? You can make it available easily on the Mac desktop. Next, find the shortcut for the program you want in the Windows Program group, and then drag the shortcut icon to the Mac desktop. First launch Windows in Parallels and then click the Start button.

Every Parallels Toolbox user will receive the new features in this update. Only users with a subscription—either for Parallels Desktop® 12 for Mac or Parallels Toolbox—will receive the new tools.
